ANCIENT STAINS
This project is my love letter to colour..
to honour my obsession with it.
Growing up in California, I have always been drawn to water, especially the ocean—its movement, its energy, its unpredictability. My work is a study of color and water, an exploration of these natural forces, using gravity and wind as integral elements of my process.
Inspired by classical staining technique, I guide the flow of color with controlled movements, fans, and tilts of the canvas, allowing gravity to push the pigments into spontaneous, organic, layered compositions.
The act of working with water is both exhilarating and deeply therapeutic. As I build layer upon layer of transparent stains, I embrace the unexpected moments that emerge—colors colliding, currents forming, and textures evolving in ways I could never fully predict. Each piece is a completely unique collaboration between intention and spontaneity, a perfect reflection of life’s unpredictable, ever-changing nature.
But beyond movement and fluidity, the stains themselves hold a deeper significance for me—- like DNA, genetic code—the very fabric of human life and evolution. Each stain is a mark of the past, a fusion of identities, cultures, and lineages that have blended for thousands of years over time.
In a world often divided by ideology, religion, and borders, my work serves as a reminder that we are all interconnected. Just as water and pigment merges to form the canvas into something new, humanity is a continuous mixing of stories, shaping the present and the future.
Through my art, I aim to capture the beauty of nature’s forces— the richness and diversity of our shared human experience—and give a peaceful nod to the past, present, and ever-evolving tapestry of life.
